BENNY IS IN THE HOUSE!
After mourning Zen for quite sometime, Geraldina and Reemberto have decided it is time for another dog.  We did our civic duty by going to the pound and rescuing a 10 lbs fat chihuahua. We named him Benny (purposely misspelled) in honor of Beni More, Benny and the Jets, and Beny the Latino star of the best baseball movie of all times, the Sandlot. See pixs HERE

CRISTINA & CARMEN YOLI GRADUATES FROM COLLEGE, JULITO FROM HIGH SCHOOL
Cristina is heading to Harvard to pursue her law degree; Carmen Yoli heads to New York; and Julito ventures out to the brave new world of New Orleans (Loyola.)[*family link for those that may not know: Cristina is Jose Miguel and Susana's daughter; Carmen Yoli & Julito are Carmencita's and Julio's children..]

DADO QUE LA TEMPORADA DE HURACANES ESTA AL EMPEZAR, JORGE* (en la Republica Dominicana) NOS ENVIA ESTA NOTA:

Huracanes Cubanos

Hay  una congresista negra de Texas que se llama Sheila Jackson Lee, que se quejó  de que los nombres de los huracanes siempre son nombres de blancos. Ella  preferiría nombres que reflejen la cultura Afro-Americana como Chamiqua,  Tanisha, Woeisha, Shaqueal y Jamal.

También quiere que los reportes del tiempo sean  dados en lenguaje de la calle que la gente pueda entender mejor porque uno de  los problemas que hubo en New Orleans cuando Katrina fue que el pueblo no  entendian la seriedad de la situación ya que el idioma usado en los reportes  meteorológicos estaba 'racially biased'.

Pues yo estoy de acuerdo con  ella, no sólo eso, creo que también les deben de poner nombres cubanos a los  ciclones que vienen para la Florida y dar los partes del tiempo en nuestro idioma. De ahora en adelante quiero que los huracanes se llamen Cheo, Chicho,  Chencha, Mima, Pipo, el Gago, el Bizco y Pepito el Orejón. Y no pueden faltar  los nombres nuevos como Yuriel, Yankiel, Yahimi, Yumuri, Yamisela, Mylady y  Yotevi.

También quiero que cuando den reportes de huracanes amenazando a  la Florida lo digan así:

"Oye asere, cuidao con la volá, mira que pa'cá viene  el ciclón Cachita la del Meneíto, soplando que jode. La muy desgraciá e' categoría 4, así que arranca como un cohete, mi sangre, que como te agarre e viento en Hialeah vaj'a volá como un siquitraqui. Recoge a la mujé y a lo  chamacos y vete corriendo pá la oficina de FEMA pá que te den alojamiento y toas las cosas gratis.  Alabao!!!"[*family link for those that may not know: Jorge es el sobrino de Paco.]  { COULD A HIALEAH PICHY BOYS VIDEO ON THIS BE FAR BEHIND? :-)  }

CUBAN RESTAURANTS ACROSS THE U.S.A.
No, this is NOT a repeat of last month's story...  Once again, I've found yet another Cuban Restaurant in the most of unlikely place: This time it was in Phoenix, Arizona.  "Havana Cafe" is actually a local chain, with three spots.  Their menu is pretty extensive, including many Spanish dishes.  None of the wait staff is Cuban, but the cook is .  The decor is nothing special, but the food is very good... ...y, pa' no quedalce atra...  We also (re)visited Palomilla Restaurant in Atlanta.  (Web site HERE )  We visited with Toti and found the new Cuban beer CERVEZA TROPICAL, brewed, appropriately enough, in Melbourne, FLA! See their web site HERE  (Note: There web-site has a cute short video and a list of Cuban restaurants across the USA; but, as with most of such lists, it is grossly out of date and very Miami-centric.)
