Sad to communicate the passing away of Virginita Balbona. For the Rodriguez family: Virginita was Nancy's cousin, and wife of Dr. Peque Balbona... For the Dominguez Family: Peque is Reemberto's "Padrino" from the Agrupacion Catolica Universitaria and an old friend of the familia... May she rest in peace... And to Peque and family, our prayers are with them.
Also in October, our 13 1/2 year old dog, Zen, passed away to doggie heaven... He left us with many MANY incredible memories of what a neat pet can be... You can see some of his pics at our Pet Page, where you can also find a new pic of Kaki & Michael's "Phoenix" (See side bar.)

Lino Passes the Bar
On another happy-happy note: CONGRATULATIONS to Liny for passing the Bar... He joins Erik as the select few in the familia with a full law degree... Lino tells us he'll continue practicing immigration law until they stop coming (which is probably no time soon!)
...which reminds me: Did you hear that the new fence being built at the US/Mexico border is 16 feet high?... Well, it seems the nearby Home Depot has suddenly sold out of 18 feet ladders :-)
Red Sox Win!!!
Well well: Congrats to them Boston Red Sox!... And, I am ashamed to say that with all the 'baseball experts' in the familia NO ONE picked them to win it all!... A bunch of you guys picked NO MORE than TWO correct teams that made it to the playoffs - shame on you! :-) Only Rember Jr., actually selected THREE of the teams that finally went to the playoffs... And yes, at least three of my non-familia friends picked Boston as World Champs (but they really don't count - they are all from Boston!)...We'll play again next year - Go Nationals!!!

In Atlanta, we had the situation of two cousins playing in the bands for two competing football teams... Joseph was doing his horn-thing for Parkview and Julian his drumming for Grayson...
CUBAN VINO ANYONE?
Oh, and what pride it is to be CUBANO! - Chuchi & Iliana visited Portland (OR) recently. They came back sharing with us that in the middle of Oregon there is a winery owned by a Cubano (Peter Pan guy). And, he has named his wine Cubanismo!... The only premium Cuban wine maker in the World. It is owned a by Habana born Cuban neurosurgeon, Mauricio Collada Jr. They already have distribution in Miami/Fl. Check out his website HERE.
NEAT STORY OF THE MONTH: It's a Small World After All!!!
The other night I went to volunteer at a nearby elementary school parent-teacher event. They put me with the Latino parents (90% Salvadorean - though there was this Dominicana teacher that had an uncanny similarity to Whopi!) The Agenda item was "How to Read to Your Kids"... And, my God, would'nt you know it! - The book they were using was none other than "La Tatarabuela de La Cucarachita Martina" written by one of our distant relatives, Alma Flor Ada!... (She lives in California and is the author of excellent children books, many written both in Spanish and English... See HERE for samples of hers and similar books.)
